Black Owned: Black Magic Sweets

We first had the pleasure of being introduced to Aliyah Davis and Black Magic Sweets during the eTcTacoma x Kinsey Collection x TAM popup shop. During the Kinsey Collection exhibition the TAM cafe, operated by the amazing Chef Tony, Susan and Britney, decided to add black owned food vendors to the experience every third Thursday to help show support and to spotlight them as addition to celebrating American art by Black artists.

I had heard about Black Magic Sweets prior to our meeting and her first day at TAM a large portion of the staff was waiting for her to setup so that she didn’t feel like they were trying to rush the table. Upon setup completion they rushed the table. I had never tried a cream puff and I may never try one from anyone else because the Black Magic that Aliyah swirled together in order to create her’s is one of one. I feel like she is most know for her macaroons though; she really crushes the presentation. The box is simple yet elegant and fits six macaroons like a cocoon, it feels custom, especially the gold one, and then the macaroons are colorfully assorted all with a unique color for each unique flavor with a key inserted in the packaging to help prioritize your palette. It’s phenomenal work done single-handedly by Aliyah - for now. We would love to see a black owned pastry chef in downtown Tacoma, right on the corner of ninth and Court A. Talk about easy mornings.

This is a great article on Black Magic Sweets.
