PRODUCT: BEHIND THE DESIGN - HALLOWEEN '16 RELEASE
Product commemorating a particular date of significance like a holiday or anniversary has always been some of my favorite product to both purchase and create. The double edge sword is that type of product is best served few and far between, so there isn't much chance of getting your hands on it. The annual nature of its release builds on anticipation organically and there isn't much hype necessary. We don't do every holiday - the only two that we have made product for specifically thus far are New Year's Day, Christmas and this year's Halloween release. In the past we have only produced reinterpretations of our most infamous product to-date the Mt. Tacoma snapback, but for the first time we included apparel - the Pumpkin Head pullover. The P/O concept was built around making a Jack-o-Lantern version of the Bad Apple logo. Kev (our Art Director) told us he wanted to carve the pumpkin and take a picture to reference it for the artwork. From the photos taken it was a blurred photo that Kev decided to use and instead of recreating it through illustration he edited the photo into the current grainy graphic. There are moments when building a graphic is a tangible and not solely electronic experience are the ones we remember most.
