SPORTS: The 907 Playbook - The Summer of Local Sports
This is the summer of sports around the sound, and the weather is starting to get nice (at least when i'm writing this it is...) so get out there and go support your local teams. Plus we all know going to games is waaaay better than seeing them on tv or stats on twitter. First we got everyone's favorite the Tacoma Rainiers. What's not to love here. Firework Fridays for home games, hat giveaways, and in the summit club free beer till the 7th inning! Oh and not to mention they’re GOOD. With a 21-11 record, it makes them the second best team in the Pacific Coast League (equivalent to American/National League in the MLB). These guys are on fire and the chances of seeing them win are high if you venture out to one of these games! Now why are the M’s struggling if their farm team is so good… Anyways, another huge thing for the Rainiers and the TOWN this summer is The MiLB All-Star Game andHome Run Derby. Its right here at Cheney Stadium. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see some of the future stars or just catch some home run balls in the Foss parking lot. Hell if you got the plug at Foss you can even watch for free on cheapskate hill! Either way, go support and watch some good baseball this summer!
Or are you feeling some basketball withdrawals? Go watch the ladies ball out in the 206 as the Seattle Storm. Plus this will finally give you a chance to break out your closet full of old Sonics gear! Tickets aren't badly priced either. What I like about Key Arena too is every seat is a good seat. Of course the team isn't the best but there has been optimistic reports that are even giving the Storm a playoff push. And if you plan it right and catch one when they play the San Antonio Stars, you can watch UW playmaker and record breaker Kelsey Plum ballin in her “home” stadium.
This is just the beginning, of course the Mariners are always at Safeco, that’s a crazy good time, even in nosebleeds where I sat last year. Especially if you roll with a group. Plus the guys at Club 907 just dropped some good gear for that venue too! Either way get out there, go on a date, have fun, support your local teams, watch some good sports and of course always dress accordingly to the stadium!
