PRODUCT: CONVICT SEASON EXPLAINED: eTceTera SPRING'16
Spring '16 Convict Season has arrived. The ideas behind this collection stem from our understanding of the condition our "more perfect union" is in currently. The youth are desensitized, the adults are over sensitized and the worry is more present then ever in the eyes of everyone. The old model has changed and that comes with a lot of altered opinions - our parents certainly saw things developing a different way then they panned out. This season is our interpretation of how it's panning out right in front of us and is an inkling into what we expect to come. It is also us spitting back at the white collar community that has frowned their brow so heavily while looking down on us, only to land on the same level - potential convict.
Yes, the message is some what political we won't stray away from that perspective of things but let us not forget that streetwear is a game of satire and wit. Poking fun is all the fun and pop culture references are the spice of life when speaking to the heartbeat of any grassroots consumer or brand. If eTceTera is a polygon this is one form of our many shapes and sides. The message is,
"We see how you see us - and we view you in the same light"
The Convict coaches jacket inspired by the bright orange jumpsuits they use to uniform and flag criminals. 'No Chance' front left chest and big embroidered eTceTera tonally blazed across the back. To be seen is to be heard today.
You're Going Nowhere is a message to the youth. All the plotting up, joogin and finessing often lands them right back in the debt and despair they are itching and scratching to escape. The total world domination and get-rich-quick schemes are a myth. Take your time, understand you HAVE the time - plan prepare and execute. Let this be a lesson. Available in T, pullover and snapback.
There is historical illustration reference here, Spy vs Spy, was a part of an era pre-dating us but all the principles remain and that is the bigger picture. There is NO honor amongst thieves, while you're trying to get over on them they're trying to get over on you. Another part of the convict lifestyle you need to know comes with the territory. Originally this graphic was a mock-up for our DOM Kennedy in-store event but since we ended up not using it we kept it in the pocket. It wasn't until we developed the 'Looters' graphic that we decided to add it to the collection. It's the second half of the story, if you're looting it's for pocket money point blank. Anybody and everybody can be a convict. It's often white collar criminals who do the most damage to our society. Enron is was the Watergate our era and we won't let it be forgotten - big-wigs in executive offices robbing whole families blind right in front of their faces. Criminal activity isn't happening only in 'the streets' it's happening in a skyscraper and bank near you - don't be fooled. They lie, cheat and steal like every other criminal. The Inmate jacket was inspired again by the DOC uniforms they wear in the prison system. Much like it separates those who belong to the Federal Penetreries our Inmate jacket separates the 907's from the fakes. Either you're in for life or your not - based off your actions you choose your path. But understand you're not just a number to us (hence no inmate numbers) we are all the same number. It's 907 or nothing. Available in Tan only (size down one).
There is always a way out - Shawshank Redemption is proof of that. A man had the patience and the will power to slowly chip his way to freedom and it wasn't about the time, he had plenty of that to kill, it was about the determination to make it out to the pot of gold waiting. It takes time but what is waiting for you on the other end is still waiting. Chip away - we did. Available in blk T- shirt only.
Obviously a Monopoly game rip, the Go To Hell graphic is self explanatory, over the past year and a half we have seen people of color chopped down by the authorities. Whether it is profiling, wrongful arrest or bloodshed the powers that be are being misused. And it is not just happening to people of color it's happening everywhere and everyday. Thanks to social media we see it clearly on a daily basis and it's confirmation it's happening so controversial or not you know where to stick it.
The 'Looters' graphic is where the designing for this season began. A flip of the Loomis money truck, if you must know, is less about getting all the money and more about getting away with everything. Any career criminal is just as obsessed with the planning as the execution, the exit strategy is the crowning moment. We're taking things where we want when we want - who gon stop us??
